Get Control of your IT Capacity Management

Disaster struck when account holders of a major European bank found they could not withdraw cash from the ATM's before 10 in the morning. The issue was that overnight account update processing was overrunning, preventing the online service from starting at 8am. The bank called in our Capacity Management expertise as a matter of urgency. They used our software to provide a clear flow diagram of their complex overnight process. This enabled them to focus on 2 update processes that were taking over 5 hours. The analysis showed that, by running the 2 processes in parallel and spreading the load over multiple disk storage units, these processes would take less than 1 hour. The client made the changes and, the following day, account holders were able to withdraw cash from 8am. After this, the bank used our Capacity Management product to keep control of their overnight updates.

A major European telecommunications provider had merged with 2 other telecommunications providers located in different countries. To reduce their costs, they planned to merge their messaging servers into a single installation, which would require a major server upgrade. They asked for our Capacity Management assistance to determine the size of the new configuration to include all their messaging services. They used our software to create profiles of their individual message server configurations. They then used our software to merge these profiles into a single configuration. They were amazed that the result showed that their existing hardware had the capacity to handle all 3 companies. They were then able to reduce their costs by closing the 2 other providers data centres with no major upgrade required.
